20.10.202607:07:21UTC+00Euro Nears Multi-Month Lows Amid Political Unrest

The euro traded near $1.12, hovering close to multi‑month lows, as mounting social unrest in France, Italy, and elsewhere in Europe deepened worries over fiscal stability and political risk. In France, authorities imposed curfews in several cities on Monday to contain nationwide anti‑government protests, increasing the strain on President Emmanuel Macron in the final months of his term and potentially complicating plans to push through austerity measures ahead of the 2027 elections. In Italy, the government said it would deploy 500 troops after several days of unrest. Geopolitical tensions also escalated after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused US President Donald Trump of pressuring Kyiv to offer concessions to Russia. On the monetary policy front, both the ECB and the Federal Reserve are widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged at their meetings later this month, with markets still pricing in a possible rate hike in December.
