15.10.202606:34:50UTC+00Romanian Industrial Output Decline Eases in August

Industrial production in Romania declined by 2.7% year-on-year in August 2026, easing from a 6.1% contraction in July, which had been the sharpest drop in more than a year. Output in mining and quarrying rose 7.8%, up from 1.4% in the previous month and reaching its highest level in over five years. This improvement was supported by robust growth in the mining of metal ores and in other mining and quarrying activities, as well as a more moderate decline in coal and lignite production.

Manufacturing output also contracted at a slower pace, falling 3.4% compared with a 7.2% decrease in July. Within manufacturing, there were notable increases in the production of beverages; computer, electronic and optical products; electrical equipment; and other transport equipment. The downturn in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply also softened, with output down 1.2% versus a 2.0% decline in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, industrial production rose 1.6% in August, rebounding from a revised 1.3% decrease in July.
