SEC's complaint is the latest in a series of legal headaches for Binance. In March, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) sued the company for allegedly using an "unlawful" exchange and a "fictitious" compliance program. At the time, Changpeng Zhao said the CFTC's claims were "incomplete factual statements."

According to the analytical website CoinMarketCap, Binance's 24-hour trading volume sharply increased on Tuesday during Asian hours and more than doubled to $12.48 billion.

The lawsuit against Binance marks the latest event in the SEC's massive crackdown on the crypto industry following FTX's collapse last year. The increased scrutiny has prompted some crypto companies to step up compliance measures, increase the number of products, and expand beyond the United States.

Additional data from CoinMarketCap confirmed this observation. Daily volume during May remained stuck in the range of $20-30 billion as the market entered a period of low volatility.

According to Coinglass, the nominal value of open interest in BTC (OI) over the past week has slightly decreased to $11.91 billion. As the asset price has fallen by more than 7% during the same period, this proves that money has been leaving the market.

Surprisingly, the decline did not prevent traders with leverage from opening positions, betting on price increases. At the time of writing, the number of longs has sharply increased compared to shorts.
