One of the major soft drink producers, Pepsi, has introduced its first Android-based smartphone, being sold via a crowdfunding website, the Chinese equivalent of Kickstarter called JD Finance. The estimated retail price of the new Pepsi-branded device will be approximately $200. The Pepsi Phone P1 was officially unveiled during a product presentation in China. At present, the smartphone is only available in China and can be pre-ordered with a discount to be later shipped to a buyer after the fundraising campaign ends. The beverage conglomerate is attempting to raise 3 million yuan (around $470,000) until December 3, 2015. The device is equipped with a 5.5-inch display, runs on an octa-core 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6792 processor and is loaded with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The new smartphone also sports two cameras, on the front and rear panels, and features a fingerprint scanner. The Pepsi Phone P1 can hold two SIM cards and provides access to fourth-generation (4G) wireless networks, DD-LTE and LTE. Under the hood, the mobile device is powered by Dido OS 6.1, which is based on Android 5.1. The handset comes in blue, gold, and silver colors. The mid-range phablet is manufactured by a Chinese company named Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment. It features a Pepsi logo at the back and includes pre-loaded themes in red, white, and blue, the instantly recognizable brand colors.
