France's consumer price inflation accelerated as expected in September, after remaining stable in the previous two months, preliminary figures from INSEE showed Friday.

The consumer price index rose 0.4 percent year-over-year in September, faster than August's 0.2 percent stable rate of increase. The figure also matched consensus estimate.

In September, the rise in inflation resulting from the acceleration in services prices and more moderate decline in energy prices.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged down 0.2 percent in September, in line with expectations.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, climbed 0.5 percent annually in September, as expected by economists, following a 0.4 percent increase in the prior month.

Month-on-month, the HICP dropped 0.2 percent in September, just below the expected fall of 0.3 percent.

Separately, the INSEE reported that producer prices dipped 2.0 percent yearly in August. Compared to the previous month, domestic producer prices showed no variations in August, after a 0.1 percent fall in July.
