The German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble will get Charlemagne Prize on Thursday May 17 for contribution to euro saving and Europe reunification, as reported on the award website. The awarding speech will be delivered by Luxembourg Prime Minister and the European Group Head Jean-Claude Juncker, Welt says. The Charlemagne Prize has been awarded in the City of Aachen since 1950 to people who contributed to Europe reunification. Traditionally the ceremony is held on the Ascension holiday - on the 40th day after Easter. Among the prize recipients there were the former European Central Bank Chairman Jean-Claude Trichet, the US Ex-President Bill Clinton and the former Prime Minister of Great Britain Tony Blair, Associated Press says. Wolfgang Schaeuble has been heading the German Treasury since 2009. In the previous government of Angela Merkel he was occupying a position of Home Secretary. Schaeuble is the only working minister who was on board of the German Government even before the Germany reunification. He was included into the Minister Cabinet in 1984 by the Chancellor Helmut Josef Kohl. In 1991 Schaeuble was awarded with an Order of Merit.
