iPhone shipments to China surge despite COVID-19 lockdown

Apple revenue soared as the company’s smartphone shipments to China jumped sharply, CNBC reported. The increase came in spite of a COVID-19 lockdown in major Chinese cities.
In the second quarter of 2022, the tech giant shipped 9.9 million iPhones to China, up by 25% from the same period in 2021. Notably, the Chinese smartphone market sank by 10% in the April to June period as the country faced a resurgence in COVID-19 cases, which sent major cities and a number of provinces into a strict lockdown. In Shanghai, severe restrictions lasted for several weeks.
In June, local authorities eased their lockdown measures. This became the main driving force for the smartphone market and boosted iPhone shipments to China along with the shopping festival in the middle of July.
UBS, a Swiss investment bank, estimates that June Apple shipments to China surged by 227% year-on-year.
