The French religious manuscript, written in the 11th century, was provided by a private collector and sold at auction for almost 357 thousand euros.
This sale has become sensational. The document originally belonged to the cathedral in the town of Le Puy-en-Velay in the Auvergne region. After long trading, it was bought by a buyer who wished to keep his name secret.
The price of the lot started from fifty thousand euros and has grown rapidly. Experts explain this by the great interest of foreign buyers.
The representative of the auction house said that the manuscript, which has not been restored once, is almost in perfect condition, that's why it attracted a lot of attention from connoisseurs.
The manuscript was written approximately in the middle of the 11th century, almost before the beginning of the crusade. About 276 manuscript pages are intact and in very good condition.
From the landmarks of the famous manuscripts that belonged to the French diocese, this one is the oldest. This factor was the impetus for such a high appreciation of collectors.
