Mexico's industrial production fell for a second straight month in July, figures from the statistical office INEGI showed Monday.

Industrial production decreased 1.6 percent year-on-year after 0.3 percent slump in June. Economists had forecast 0.2 percent drop.

The latest fall was the biggest since April, when production tumbled 3.9 percent.

Manufacturing output grew 2.2 percent year-on-year following 2.5 percent increase in the previous month. The gain was in line with economists' expectations. Output rose for a third straight month.

Compared to the previous month, production decreased 1 percent after remaining unchanged in June. Economists had expected a modest 0.1 percent decline.
