2014.06.0907:03:59UTC+00New Zealand dollar climbs as market sentiment improves

The New Zealand dollar climbed against the US dollar on Monday, as market sentiment was still supported following Thursday's announcement of a bunch of new stimulus measures by the European Central Bank.

The currency hit 0.8526 US cents during late Asian trade. The pair consolidated at 0.8524 US cents, up 0.28%.

Market sentiment became stronger after the ECB announced last week a series of measures to fend off the threat of persistently low inflation in the eurozone.

Meanwhile, the greenback was somewhat supported following the Department of Labor on Friday reported the US economy gained 217,000 jobs last month while the unemployment rate was still at a 5 ½ low of 6.3%.

Investors were also turning their focus on the outcome of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's monetary policy meeting slated this week.
