It may sound a bit strange, but miners undermine the intergalactic security of our planet. The Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) institute claims that cryptocurrency mining hinders researches on aliens and UFOs.

The problem is that greedy miners bulk-buy video cards that are essential for searching for alien life. Graphics processing units are used to scan the outer space. So, here is an obvious clash of interests. Video cards have not only become the goods in short supply but also appreciated considerably on the back of a high demand. Now the SETI specialists have to wait in lines to get the sought-after device and exceed the budget limit. “We'd like to use the latest GPUs [graphics processing units]... and we can't get them. That's limiting our search for extraterrestrials, to try to answer the question, 'Are we alone? Is there anybody out there?” SETI chief scientist Dan Werthimer said.

Ufologists scrutinize the data obtained in the observatories from all over the world, using powerful graphics processing units. They think this activity is much more useful than mining which they call meaningless occupation. Miners, in their turn, have the same attitude towards ufologists’ work.
