2017.04.2507:48:00UTC+00French Election: First Opinion Poll Since Election Shows 22 Point Lead for Macron

The first poll since the Sunday’s election, surveyed by Opinionway show that more than 80 percent of the people expects the independent candidate Emmanuel Macron, who came first in Sunday’s election, to beat the front National candidate and former leader Marine Le Pen. The poll predicted that Emmanuel Macron will receive 61 percent of the votes on May 7th, in a run-off with Madame Le Pen, who will receive 39 percent. The result is based on questions to more than 2,000 voters.

However, the path will not be an easy one for Mr. Macron as 45.7 percent of the voters in the first round voted in favor of euro-skeptic candidates. The latest poll also indicates that 42 percent of the voters said that the fight against terrorism will be an important factor in their decision on May 7th. That number increased from 35 percent in the aftermath of last week’s terrorist attack in Paris. Madame Le Pen is believed to be the strongest candidate on that front.

The path to Presidency won’t be easy for either of them as both failed to receive a quarter of all votes. Nevertheless, it is easier for Macron than it is for Le Pen as most of the other candidates, including the third-comer François Fillon, have given support to his candidacy in the round two.
