2019.10.0302:11:00UTC+00Australia Auto Sales Decline In September: FCAI

Australia's auto sales continued to decline in September, data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, FCAI, showed on Thursday.

New vehicle sales declined 6.9 percent or 6,530 units year-on-year in September. Passenger car sales plunged 18.3 percent annually.

New vehicles have now seen the eighteenth consecutive month of decreasing sales in the Australian market, Tony Weber, chief executive of the FCAI, said.

It is clear the slower sales rate the market is experiencing is in line with the broader economic environment in Australia, said Weber.

"The question has to be asked - are these results telling us we have made it too difficult for people to finance basic purchases in today's Australia?"

Data showed that Toyota was market leader in September, followed by Mitsubishi and Mazda.
