The Japanese yen plummeted against major counterparts Wednesday in spite of risk appetite and before the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting ends today.

In Asian trading, the yen declined to four-week troughs of 95.90 per Australian dollar from 95.73, and 114.26 per Swiss franc from 114.16.

The currency plunged to almost three-week lows of 137.80 per euro from 137.69, and 96.91 per Canadian dollar from 96.83.

It also dropped to a two-day trough of 108.23 per US dollar, previously 108.13.

Figures from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed the industrial production in Japan went up to a seasonally adjusted 2.7% in September. On an annual basis, industrial production grew 0.6%.
