2010.07.1909:24:00UTC+00Hungary Keeps Key Policy Rate Unchanged

Hungarian central bank left its key policy rate unchanged at 5.25% for the third consecutive rate-setting session. The decision was in line with economists' expectations.

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank announced its decision to leave the base rate unchanged at the record low of 5.25% after its monetary policy council meeting on Monday. The last policy change was in April, when the base rate was slashed by 25 basis points to 5.25%. The central bank has been cutting the key rate steadily since October 2008.

Official figures suggest that Hungary's annual consumer price inflation rose to 5.3% in June from 5.1% in May. Month-on-month, the index increased 0.2%, slower than the 0.9% rise in May. The seasonally adjusted core inflation rate was flat on a monthly basis and rose 3.5% year-on-year.
