Singapore consumer prices rose 3.7% year-on-year in September, the Department of Statistics said Monday. Economists had expected it to rise 3.6%. The increase was largely led by higher costs of transport, housing and food. Excluding accommodation costs, the consumer price index was 3.8% higher.

The consumer price index in September rose marginally by 0.1% over August 2010 due largely to higher costs of housing, food as well as "recreation & others", the statistical office said. Excluding accommodation costs, consumer prices dipped 0.1%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, consumer prices in September advanced 0.2%.
