2017.02.2802:41:00UTC+00Prosecutors to Implicate Samsung’s Chief on Several Charges Linked to Political Scandal

South Korea's special prosecutors intend to arraign Jay Y. Lee, Samsung Group's scion and four other involved executives with charges corruption, embezzlement and other during the last day of its probe of a political scandal that has shaken the country.

The official indictment would denote that Lee will stand trial to allegations of resorting to bribes in order to gain government approval. The vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co. is accused of giving tens of millions of dollars to people acquainted to President Park Geun-hye's close confidant in order to secure government backing for a merger that was seen to solidify his control and succession as the head of the country's biggest conglomerate.

Both Lee and Samsung denied having knowledge regarding the underhanded proceedings.

Charges against the de-facto Samsung head includes bribery, concealment of assets offshore, and fraud, according to prosecutors.

The indictment comes less than two weeks after a court approved an arrest warrant for Lee by prosecutors, who failed to put Lee behind bars during their first attempt. Lee can fulfill bail following any indictment and a ruling must be released in three months.
