Turkey's consumer confidence weakened notably in August after improving in the previous month, survey data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Wednesday.

The headline consumer confidence index, calculated from the results of a combined survey carried out by the statistical department and the central bank, dropped to 77.2 in August from 78.5 in July. In June, the score was 76.2.

The overall sentiment was negatively impacted by households' negative assessment of the probability of saving in the next twelve months, with the relevant sub-indicator falling to 25.8 in August from 28.7 a month earlier.

Households were less optimistic about the further prospects for the economy than they were in July. The corresponding indicator fell to 103 from 105.1.

At the same time, the measure of sentiment regarding personal finances over the next twelve months dropped by 1.3 percent to 93.1 in August. There was also a decrease in the the ratio of people expecting an improvement in the country's employment situation.
