India's wholesale price inflation accelerated in July largely due to rebound in food prices, data from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry showed Monday.

Wholesale prices climbed 1.88 percent year-on-year in July, faster than the 0.90 percent rise in June.

Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was 0.62 percent compared to a build up rate of 3.81 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The WPI food index increased 2.12 percent from last year, in contrast to a 1.25 percent fall in June.

Data showed that food article prices advanced 2.15 percent reversing a 3.47 percent drop in the previous month. Meanwhile, non-food article prices fell 6.32 percent, following a 5.15 percent drop.

The annual growth in fuel and power prices slowed to 4.37 percent from 5.28 percent. At the same time, manufactured products prices gained 2.18 percent after rising 2.27 percent.
