2019.02.1417:35:00UTC+00New Zealand Manufacturing PMI Falls To 53.1 In January - BusinessNZ

The manufacturing sector in New Zealand continued to expand in January, albeit at a slower pace, the latest survey from BusinessNZ revealed on Friday with a manufacturing PMI score of 53.1.

That's down from 54.8 in December, although it remains above the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

Among the individual components of the survey, production, deliveries, finished stocks, new orders and employment all continued to expand - although new orders slowed for the third straight month.

"Looking beyond the steady headline reading, the details of this month's survey do raise some questions about the durability and pace of the current expansion," BNZ Senior Economist Doug Steel said.
