Spain's producer price inflation continued to increase in August, driven by energy prices, the statistical office INE said Tuesday.

Producer price inflation climbed to 5.2 percent in August from 4.6 percent in July. This was the highest rate since May 2017.

Meanwhile, excluding energy, producer price inflation eased slightly to 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, producer prices gained 0.5 percent in August after rising 0.4 percent in July.

Among components of PPI, energy prices surged 16.5 percent from last year. Intermediate goods and capital goods prices advanced 2.9 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, consumer goods prices dropped 0.5 percent in August.
