Denmark's foreign trade surplus decreased in May, as exports fell and imports rose, figures from Statistics Denmark showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted trade surplus fell to DKK 5.5 billion in May from DKK 6.2 billion in the previous month.

Exports dropped 2.2 percent monthly in May, in contrast to a 1.5 percent rise in the preceding month. At the same time, imports rose 0.3 percent from April, when it slid by 0.3 percent.

Shipments to EU countries edged up 0.2 percent over the month, while those to non-EU countries dipped by 5.8 percent.
