2017.07.2006:05:00UTC+00Hong Kong Inflation Eases Slightly In June

Hong Kong's consumer price inflation eased marginally in June, figures from the Census and Statistics Department showed Thursday.

The consumer price index rose 1.9 percent year-over-year in June, following a 2.0 percent stable rate of increase in May. It was the fourth successive monthly rise.

The underlying inflation, which excludes one-off relief measures of the government, also moderated to 1.9 percent in June from 2.0 percent in May. Housing costs rose 2.7 percent annually in June and food prices, excluding meals bought away from home went up by 2.8 percent. In contrast, prices of durable goods decreased 4.0 percent.

"Looking ahead, the upside risks to inflation should be limited in the near term, considering that these developments are likely to sustain in the coming months," a government spokesman said.

"The Government will continue to monitor the inflation developments closely, particularly its impact on the lower-income people."
