2019.09.2507:12:00UTC+00South Africa Leading Index Rises In July

South Africa's leading index rose in July after slowing in the previous two months, survey data from the South African Reserve Bank showed on Wednesday.

The leading indicator increased to 103.9 in July from 103.2 in June. In May, the score was 104.0.

Over the past 12 months, the index fell 1.5 percent in July, following a 3.0 percent decline in the previous month.

Five of the ten components increased in July, while the remaining five decreased, the central bank said.

The biggest positive contributions came from an acceleration in the twelve-month percentage change in job advertisement space and an increase in the South African export commodity price index, the SARB said.

The largest negative contributions came from a decrease in the number of new passenger vehicles sold and a deterioration in the BER's Business Confidence Index.

The coincident index rose to 106.1 in June from 105.9 in May.

The lagging index decreased to 94.8 in June from 96.3 in May.
