2025.10.1310:58:05UTC+00Sensex Ends Slightly Down

On Monday, India's BSE Sensex experienced a slight decline, closing approximately 0.2% lower at 82,327.1. Investor sentiment remained cautious due to several factors, including anticipation of Q2 corporate earnings, concerns over domestic CPI inflation, the potential US government shutdown, and ongoing trade uncertainties. Profit-taking particularly affected consumption and discretionary sectors, while the IT segment performed below expectations. However, financial stocks saw selective buying amid some regulatory relaxations. Over the weekend, global markets were unsettled by President Trump's threat to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese products from November 1, although he later adopted a more conciliatory tone towards China. Meanwhile, reports indicated that India and the US are aiming for a fall 2025 deadline for finalizing the initial phase of a bilateral trade agreement. Noteworthy among equities, Tata Motors, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever, Bharat Electricals, ITC, and Power Grid were significant laggards. In contrast, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, and NTPC stood out as the major gainers.
