2025.12.0901:11:43UTC+00Irish Construction Activity Downturn Sharpens

In November 2025, the AIB Ireland Construction PMI fell to 46.7, declining from October's four-month peak of 48.1, marking the seventh consecutive month of contraction in the sector. This decline was attributed to a continued drop in new orders due to weak demand and project delays, with all three construction categories experiencing a decrease in activity. Commercial activity witnessed a renewed and significant decline, while civil engineering experienced the most pronounced decrease. Similarly, work on housing projects declined for the seventh month in a row, although at the slowest rate since June. Notably, companies increased their employment levels for the first time in three months, and purchasing activity broke a four-month streak of contraction, driven by hopeful growth expectations for the upcoming year. However, suppliers' delivery times continued to extend. Regarding pricing, input cost inflation surged to an eight-month high, leading firms to raise their selling prices. Finally, business sentiment dipped to a four-month low.
