The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands decreased to 2.4% in January 2026, a decline from 2.8% recorded in the previous month, based on preliminary data. This represents the lowest inflation rate since December 2023, with deceleration observed across numerous product categories, notably in food, beverages, and tobacco, which saw a reduction from 3.1% to 2.0%. Additionally, there was a slowdown in inflation for industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels, dropping from 0.9% to 0.6%, as well as for services, which decreased from 4.1% to 3.9%. Conversely, energy prices, including motor fuels, experienced a slight rebound, moving from a negative 0.4% to a positive 0.4%. Furthermore, the index reflecting consumption abroad increased by 0.2% on a year-on-year basis, a decrease from the 0.5% rise observed in December. On a month-to-month comparison, consumer prices were predicted to decline by 0.7%, following a 0.2% rise in the preceding month. The HICP-based annual inflation rate, which excludes costs for owner-occupied housing, was projected at 2.2%, down from December's 2.7%.
