2026.02.1008:31:40UTC+00Slovak Industrial Output Falls the Most in 3 Years

Industrial production in Slovakia fell by 8.5% year-on-year in December 2025, accelerating from a 4.5% decline in November. This was the third consecutive monthly contraction in industrial activity and the sharpest drop since December 2022. The downturn was mainly driven by a 25.8% plunge in electricity and gas supply (compared with an 18.8% decrease in November), the steepest fall since March 2022, and a 22.1% contraction in mining and quarrying (versus a 6.2% decline previously).

Manufacturing output also weakened further, shrinking by 4.5% after a 2.4% drop in the prior month. The decline reflected lower production of basic metals (-13.2% vs +5.3% in November), wood and paper products and printing (-11.4% vs -6.8%), and machinery and equipment (-9.3% vs -4.4%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output decreased by 4.9% in December. Over the whole of 2025, industrial production contracted by 3.1% compared with the previous year. This was the seventh annual slowdown in the past 17 years, though it was also the mildest of those declines.
