2026.08.2700:17:56UTC+00Gold Rises as Fed Outlook Mulled

Gold rose to about $4,620 an ounce on Thursday, recouping part of the previous session’s losses as investors reassessed the outlook for Federal Reserve policy ahead of a key meeting next month. Data released Wednesday showed that US PCE inflation for July increased more than expected and remained well above the Fed’s target, reinforcing expectations for a more hawkish interest-rate stance.

Market attention now turns to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s address at the Jackson Hole symposium on Friday, though he is not expected to provide explicit guidance on the central bank’s September policy decision.

At the same time, gold traded near a three-month high, supported by the so‑called “debasement trade,” as investors continued to hedge against the risks of a potential US debt crisis and further dollar weakness.

In physical markets, China’s net gold imports via Hong Kong rose roughly 11% month over month in July, underpinned by stronger investment demand.
