Fiji’s annual inflation rate rose to 7.6% in August 2026 from 5.7% in July, reaching its highest level since December 2011. The acceleration was driven primarily by food prices, which increased 9.5%, the fastest pace since April 2024.

Inflation also picked up in several other categories: housing inflation climbed to 7.0% from 6.1% in July, and prices for miscellaneous goods and services rose 3.6%, up from 2.7%. Prices rebounded in clothing and footwear (1.2% vs. -0.3% previously) and in furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.6% vs. -0.6%).

By contrast, inflation eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, slowing to 13.3% from 14.3%. Transport prices and education costs were unchanged, with transport holding at 11.7% and education at 0.4%. Prices for recreation and culture continued to decline but at a much slower rate (-0.7% vs. -2.4%).

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) slipped 0.1% in August, following a 1.1% decline in July, marking the second consecutive monthly decrease.
