2026.09.0407:45:57UTC+00Slovakia GDP Growth Revises Slightly Higher

Slovakia’s economy grew by 0.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, slightly above the preliminary estimate but down from the 0.9% expansion recorded in Q1. The strongest positive contribution came from wholesale and retail trade, transport, accommodation, and food services, which together expanded by 2.3% and accounted for 21.8% of total gross value added. Industry, which makes up 17.5% of GDP, recorded more modest growth of 0.3%.

On the expenditure side, domestic demand was the main growth driver. Government consumption returned to positive territory, rising 1.7% after a 0.4% decline in the previous quarter, while household spending slowed to 0.6% from 1.1%. Gross fixed capital formation decreased by 0.3%.

External trade developments were also supportive. Exports of goods and services increased by 3.0%, while imports rose by 3.7%. The foreign trade balance remained in surplus, exceeding EUR 0.5 billion—its highest positive level since the first quarter of 2024. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy grew by 0.2%, matching the pace observed in the previous quarter.
