2026.09.0716:47:41UTC+00Costa Rica Holds Deflationary Trend

Consumer prices in Costa Rica fell 0.17% year-on-year in August 2026, the mildest deflation rate since the start of the current deflationary spell in May 2025, when inflation stood at -0.12%. This easing in the pace of price declines occurred even as the CPI posted a second consecutive monthly drop (-0.11% vs. -0.47% in July). Transport prices decreased by 1.06%, bucking the global pattern, as Costa Rica remains less immediately exposed than other Latin American economies to surging fuel costs. By contrast, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose sharply, up 1.01%.
