2026.11.0608:07:39UTC+00India 10Y Yield Rebounds Slightly

India’s 10-year government bond yield edged up to 7.19%, rebounding slightly after earlier touching its lowest level in more than a month, as investors took profits following a sharp rally in debt prices. Sentiment was also cautious ahead of a ₹360 billion government bond auction, which will include longer-dated securities maturing in 2041 and 2076, dampening immediate demand.

At the same time, tighter domestic liquidity—driven by the Reserve Bank of India’s absorption of surplus funds from the banking system—may curb banks’ capacity to step up bond purchases. Persistent domestic inflationary pressures and the government’s sizeable borrowing program are likewise expected to keep yields under upward pressure, while foreign investor outflows from government securities in September and October may further restrain demand.

India’s heavy dependence on imported energy also leaves its bond market exposed to any renewed rise in crude oil prices, which could reignite imported inflation and narrow the room for the RBI to cut interest rates. Nonetheless, the recent softening of US Treasury yields and the pullback in global crude prices are providing some relief to the local debt market.
