The American business is independent and very strong as it should be. Though the US business people are not on friendly terms with the president, they do not hesitate to contact him directly and express discontent with the government's decisions, in particular those concerning the foreign policy.
Hundreds of the US enterprises appealed to Donald Trump to reconsider the tariff decision with due regard to their needs. However, this appeal looked more like a plea rather than a request. “I am writing this letter pleading with you to keep our industry out of the next round of tariffs. I stand shoulder to shoulder with thousands of business owners in this plea. Help us make America great again,” wrote Diane Cheatham who owns Diane’s Formal Affair, an Alabama-based women’s boutique.
Interestingly, entrepreneurs are worried not only about their businesses but also about their customers. An unwanted increase in prices may lead to deterioration of people’s wealth. Thus, Spirit of 76, a firework company that imports its products from China, will have to raise prices by 25%. Overall, most American suppliers that have their production facilities in China won’t be able to sell their goods at the same price.
