That is why an alternative must be found. There are mass media reports that the country members of BRICS have plans to set up an alternative to the world’s leading cryptocurrency bitcoin.

It is worth of note that such attempts take place all the time, and ambitious statements about another ‘bitcoin killer’ are very frequent. Recently, virtual money has been springing like mushrooms after the rain. A huge amount of ‘altercoins’ traded on exchanges around the world proves that. However, their popularity or price are not even close to the bitcoin’s ones. Perhaps, this time everything will be different as the Russian government has joined in the process, and this means fatal success! Brazil, Russia, China, and South Africa are a really serious company, and BRICS projects are well-known for their massivity, which means there are good chances for creation of a strong and heavy alternative.

Regarding the bitcoin itself and its future in the vast territories of Russia, there are a lot of unsettled matters. For instance, Head of The Ministry for Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov says “as the most popular cryptocurrency is based on foreign algorithms, its full legalization is barely possible in Russia”.
