The Nikkei share average closed 6.7% higher to 17, 344.42, posting its biggest daily gain since February in a turnaround equally exceptional as the previous session's drop, as the markets reevaluate the economic implications of Republican Donald Trump's upset U.S. election win.

The benchmark index has recovered more than the 5.4% loss it suffered on Wednesday after Trump's unexpected victory roiled financial markets and caused global stocks to rapidly decline.

Trump's post election speech, which was conciliatory in nature, seemed to calm the markets. According to analysts, the U.S. President-elect attempts to convey the difference between his

stance as a “candidate Trump” and the “President Trump”has offered certainty to the markets, as they noted that Trump's tone was perceived as more balanced due to his call for unity within the election-divided country.

Financial and carmakers that were hit the hardest by the political uncertainty were revived after the U.S. dollar strengthened against the yen as risk-aversion subsided and U.S. Treasury yields rose.

All of Topix's 33 sub sectors gained, causing it to surge 5.8% to 1, 376. 35. The JPX-Nikkei Index 400 also rose 5.9% to 12, 351.63.
