2017.06.0506:58:00UTC+00European Shares Open Lower as Investors Eye ECB Meeting

European stocks inched lower Monday, as investors digested new data and the recent London bombing attack, as well as looked forward to the upcoming ECB gathering this week.

The FTSE 100 opened at 7,533.41, down 0.2%. The Stoxx Europe 600 stood at 391.88, down 0.2%. The CAC 40 traded at 5314.39, down 0.5%, in mid-morning trades. German markets were shut due to a public holiday.

Ocado was the best performing stock as it climbed around 4%. A report said the UK grocery company is poised to seal a transaction with an unknown regional European retailer.

Conversely, Banco Popular lost over 10%. The Spanish bank has been experiencing challenges since reports surfaced it would need to be downsized if it fails to look for a buyer.

Britain's PMI services data came in lower than projected as a general election has hampered investment decisions and higher inflation has affected households.
