In the second quarter of 2025, unit labor costs in the U.S. nonfarm business sector increased by 1.6%, slightly surpassing market expectations of a 1.5% rise, and marking a decrease from the revised 6.9% growth seen in the previous quarter, as per a preliminary estimate. This ascent was attributed to a 4.0% increase in hourly compensation alongside a 2.4% enhancement in labor productivity. In the manufacturing sector, unit labor costs rose by 1.7%, owing to a 3.8% hike in hourly compensation and a 2.1% boost in productivity. On an annual scale, unit labor costs in the nonfarm sector climbed by 2.6%, while those in the manufacturing sector grew by 2.5%.
