In September 2025, Bulgaria experienced a widening trade deficit of BGN 1,962.9 million, compared to BGN 1,069.6 million in the same period the previous year. This increase represents the most significant trade deficit since January, primarily due to imports increasing at a faster pace than exports. Exports saw a modest growth of 0.6% year-on-year, reaching BGN 7,072.5 million, driven by slight increases in shipments to both EU countries (up by 0.6%) and non-EU countries (up by 0.4%). On the other hand, imports surged by 11.5%, totaling BGN 9,035.4 million, with notable rises in purchases from EU (10.7%) and non-EU countries (12.6%). For the first nine months of 2025, Bulgaria's trade volume rose to BGN 13,603.6 million from BGN 7,691 million over the same timeframe the previous year. During this period, exports declined by 4.8%, whereas imports increased by 3.8%.
