The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which measures the rates for ships carrying dry commodities, dropped for the fourth consecutive session on Thursday, hitting a five-month low of 1,718 points, a decline of about 3.3%. The capesize index, associated with vessels that typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, decreased for the eleventh consecutive day, falling 5.5% to 2,721 points. Furthermore, the supramax index reduced by 17 points, settling at 976 points. In contrast, the panamax index, often used for vessels carrying cargoes of 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by approximately 1.4% to reach 1,336 points.
