The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which monitors the rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, recorded its fifth straight decline on Friday, falling approximately 1.7% to settle at 1,688 points. Significantly, the capesize index, which typically handles 150,000-ton shipments of materials like iron ore and coal, experienced its 12th consecutive drop, slipping 3% to reach 2,640 points, likely influenced by decreasing iron ore prices. Simultaneously, the supramax index decreased by 9 points to stand at 976 points. In contrast, the panamax index, generally associated with carrying 60,000-70,000 ton loads of coal or grain, increased by 0.7% to 1,345 points. Over the course of the week, the benchmark index registered a 10% decline.
