The National Bank of Rwanda raised its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points to 7.25% at its February 2026 meeting, bringing borrowing costs to their highest level since April 2024. The increase is intended to keep inflation in check and within the central bank’s target range of 2–8%. Overall inflation climbed for the second consecutive month to a seven-month high of 7.5% in January 2026, up from 5.2% in December, while urban inflation accelerated to 8.9%, compared with 8% in the previous month.
