Malta’s annual inflation rate was 2.3% in February 2026, unchanged from January and remaining at its lowest level since March 2025. Price growth was steady in several key categories, including housing and utilities (1.7%), health (3.3%), and education (4.4%).

Inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.5% vs 3.7%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (1.6% vs 1.8%), as well as restaurants and accommodation services (3.6% vs 3.7%). At the same time, deflation deepened in information and communication (-4.1% vs -2.6%) and in insurance and financial services (-1.1% vs -0.7%).

By contrast, price growth picked up in transport (2.1% vs 1.6%), recreation, sport, and culture (4.1% vs 3.9%), and personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services (3.9% vs 3.8%). Deflation in clothing and footwear moderated (-2.1% vs -2.7%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.4% in February, reversing a 0.6% decline in January and marking the first month-on-month increase in three months.
