2026.03.2711:00:00UTC+00Irish Retail Sales Growth Cools Sharply to 0.8% in February

Ireland’s retail sector saw a marked slowdown in February, with year-on-year sales growth easing to 0.8%, down from 3.0% in January 2026, according to figures updated on 27 March 2026.

The data, measured on a year-over-year basis, show that February’s 0.8% gain compares the month’s performance with February a year earlier, while January’s 3.0% reading was measured against January of the previous year. The deceleration suggests that the strong momentum seen at the start of 2026 has moderated notably just one month later.

While sales are still rising compared with a year ago, the sharp step down in the annual growth rate could signal more cautious consumer spending or early signs of a cooling retail environment as the year progresses. Market participants will be watching upcoming releases to see whether February’s weaker growth proves temporary or marks the beginning of a more subdued phase for Irish retail.
