Italy’s consumer confidence index declined to 90.8 in April 2026 from 92.6 in March, reaching its lowest level since March 2023. Household sentiment worsened across all major components, with the steepest drop recorded in the economic climate sub-index, which fell sharply to 82.7 from 88.1, underscoring mounting concerns about the national economic outlook.

The index for the future climate also weakened, slipping to 82.5 from 85.3, while the personal climate eased to 93.8 from 94.2 and the current climate index edged down to 96.9 from 98.0.

Business confidence softened as well, with the composite index falling to 95.2 in April from 97.3 in March. The deterioration was driven primarily by the services and construction sectors. The services index dropped to 99.1 from 102.6, and the construction index declined to 100.9 from 103.6. Manufacturing sentiment eased slightly to 87.9 from 88.7, while retail trade provided a modest offset, ticking up to 100.8 from 100.5.
