2026.05.1502:00:00UTC+00India’s Consumer Sentiment Inches Higher in May, Thomson Reuters IPSOS PCSI Shows

India’s consumer confidence nudged higher in May 2026, according to the latest Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) data. The index rose to 66.57 in May from 66.17 in April, indicating a modest month-over-month improvement in sentiment.

The May reading suggests that Indian consumers remain broadly optimistic, with sentiment not only holding at relatively elevated levels but edging up further compared with the previous month. The update, dated 15 May 2026, reflects a continuation of the positive trend seen into April, when the index had previously stood at 66.17.

On a month-over-month basis, the “Actual” comparison measures May’s change versus April, while the “Previous” comparison tracks April’s movement relative to March. The slight uptick in May underscores a steady, if gradual, strengthening in consumer perceptions of economic and personal financial conditions in India.
