The number of building permits issued in Serbia rose by 19.3% year-on-year to 2,634 in March 2026, reversing a 0.7% decline recorded in the previous month. Building construction permits accounted for 82.1% of the total. Within this segment, residential buildings dominated with an 80.7% share, while non-residential buildings made up the remaining 19.3%.

Altogether, 3,123 apartments were approved for construction. Of these, 15.4% are planned in single-apartment buildings, while 82.7% are to be built in multi-apartment buildings with three or more units.

Other structures represented the remaining 17.9% of total permits. Within this category, the largest share—68.6%—was for pipelines, communication infrastructure, and electrical lines.

By region, construction activity was highest in the Belgrade region (21.9% of total permits), followed by the Bor region (15.4%) and the South Banat region (10.5%).
