Latvia’s annual inflation rate accelerated to 3.5% in May 2026, the highest level in four months, up from 2.9% in April. Price growth strengthened in several key categories, including housing and utilities (5.8% vs 5.1%), transport (11.1% vs 8.5%), recreation and culture (3.2% vs 1.8%), health (4.9% vs 4.6%), personal care, social protection, various goods and services (4.7% vs 2.9%), restaurants and hotels (9.5% vs 5.6%), as well as insurance and financial services (3% vs 1.8%).

Inflation remained unchanged for communications (2.1%), while price growth slowed for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.4% vs 0.6%), furnishings and household equipment (0.1% vs 1.2%), and education (3.4% vs 4%). At the same time, prices declined for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.8% vs -0.3%) and for clothing and footwear (-0.1% vs 0.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in May, following a 0.6% increase in April.
