2026.07.0815:00:00UTC+00U.S. Consumer Sentiment Edges Back Into Optimistic Territory in July PCSI Reading

The Thomson Reuters/Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) for the United States rose to 50.99 in July 2026, moving back above the neutral 50-point threshold and signaling a modest shift toward optimism among American consumers. The latest reading, updated on 8 July 2026, compares with 49.14 in June 2026.

June’s sub-50 level had indicated slightly pessimistic sentiment, but the July improvement suggests growing confidence in the economic outlook. While the increase is not dramatic, the move from 49.14 to 50.99 marks a notable change in direction, with consumers overall now leaning marginally positive about current and future conditions.

The latest PCSI data will be closely watched by market participants and policymakers, as consumer sentiment often feeds through to household spending decisions, which are a key driver of U.S. economic activity.
