2026.07.2404:38:47UTC+00Thailand Car Sales Climb 17.26% in June

Thailand’s domestic car sales rose 17.3% year-on-year in June 2026 to a five-month high of 61,244 units, accelerating from a 10.6% increase in May, according to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). This marked the fourth consecutive month of expansion in domestic sales.

In contrast, car production declined 7.6% from a year earlier to 120,391 units in June, though this represented an improvement from the 11.4% contraction recorded in May.

The government is currently reviewing a 24 billion baht (approximately $714 million) program to replace up to 80,000 ageing transport vehicles with electric vehicles (EVs). It is also considering extending incentive schemes to cover all EV purchases, in a bid to support the energy transition and revitalize the auto industry.

Looking ahead, the FTI forecasts vehicle output will increase by 3% to 1.5 million units in 2026, following a 0.9% decline to 1.455 million units in the previous year.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s exports surged 20.8% year-on-year in June. Shipments to the United States, its largest export market, jumped 44.3%, while exports to China grew 4.9%.
